LPG Prices Reduced: 12kg Cylinder Now at Tk 999

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has once again slashed the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). In their latest announcement, they revealed that the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder has been reduced by Tk 75.24. This means that retail consumers can now purchase it for Tk 999, down from the previous price of Tk 1,074 (including VAT).

During a press briefing held at the BERC office in Dhaka on Monday, the newly appointed chairman of BERC, Md Nurul Amin, stated that prices for LPG cylinders of other sizes, ranging from 5.5kg to 45kg, will also be reduced accordingly. These new prices will come into effect from 6 pm today, July 3, 2023.

BERC officials explained that the decline in the local LPG market prices is a result of the decrease in the prices of Saudi CP (contract price). It is common for Bangladeshi LPG operators to import their products from the Middle-East market based on the Saudi CP.

In addition to the reduction in the price of LPG cylinders, the price of “auto gas” (LPG used for motor vehicles) has also been lowered. The new price stands at Tk 46.59 (including VAT) per liter, down from the previous Tk 50.09.

It’s worth noting that the price of LPG marketed by the state-owned LP Gas Company will remain unchanged, as it is locally produced and holds a market share of less than 5 percent.

Earlier this year, in February, LPG prices reached their highest point in the local market, hitting Tk 1,498 per 12kg cylinder. This surge in prices was a consequence of the Russia-Ukraine war, which began in February last year.
